What it takes to send business SMS in Pakistan
- Your sender is not preserved on Twilio. Twilio says sender IDs may be replaced with a random short code or a generic name, and two-way SMS is not supported, so customers can't reply.
- Branded sender ("mask") approval. Local providers ask for your CNIC, NTN, an application on company letterhead with stamp and signature, a one-time approval fee of Rs 5,000 plus Rs 5,000 a year (SendPK), and approval takes 30–45 business days.
- Without a brand name, local "semi-branded" packages send from a shared name such as "SMS Alert".
Sending from your own SIM in Pakistan
Pakistani operators sell SMS bundles, for example Zong Postpaid Unlimited SMS Bundle (Rs 90 + tax a month) and Jazz Monthly Freedom (Rs 2,608 for 30 days, 3,000 minutes and SMS).
- Characters: English fits in 160 characters. Urdu always uses Unicode, so one SMS holds 70 characters.
- Number format: Pakistani mobile numbers start with 03, or +92 3 in international format.
