What it takes to send business SMS in Germany
- No sender registration. Germany accepts alphanumeric senders without pre-registration.
- A name can't receive replies. For replies you need a mobile number: Twilio rents a German mobile number for $30 a month; seven.io sells numbers from €19.90 a month plus €9.90 setup.
- Business customers only at some providers: Mobizon's offers are for entrepreneurs under § 14 BGB, and LOX24's for tradespeople, freelancers, associations and similar.
Local SMS providers in Germany
German SMS providers charge, for 1,000 texts: Mobizon €69 (€0.069 each), seven.io €75 and LOX24 €75–80, plus 19% VAT. For 2,000 texts a month that is roughly €138–160 plus VAT.
With DroidSender, 2,000 texts are included in the Starter plan at $11.99 a month, sent from your own number.
Sending from your own SIM in Germany
German prepaid plans with unlimited texts start around €9.95 per 4 weeks, for example Telekom MagentaMobil Prepaid M and Vodafone CallYa Allnet Flat S (€9.99).
- Characters: German fits in a normal SMS: ä, ö, ü and ß are part of the standard 160-character alphabet.
- Number format: German mobile numbers start with 015, 016 or 017, or +49 15 / 16 / 17 in international format.
- How it works: install the DroidSender app on an Android phone, upload your list from Excel or use the API, and the phone sends each text from your number. Replies arrive in one inbox on your computer.

Frequently asked questions
- How much does an SMS cost in Germany on Twilio?
- Twilio's base price is $0.112 per SMS segment to German mobiles (October 2026), so 2,000 texts cost $224, plus $30 a month for a German mobile number.
- Do umlauts make an SMS more expensive?
- No. ä, ö, ü and ß are in the standard SMS alphabet, so a German message still holds 160 characters.
- Can I send bulk SMS in Germany from my own number?
- Yes. With DroidSender your Android phone sends through its SIM, so customers see your usual number and can reply.
